Hi,
I installed the latest version of DeltaCopy successfully on my Windows XP and it works great making daily scheduled backups to my little NAS box which runs Linux using the rsync daemon.
I cannot get SMTP email notifications to work whatsoever. In the DeltaCopy client on the Windows XP system I enter the SMTP server name (the same ISP server I use for outbound email, since it is my ISP no user id/password is required as long as I access it via my ADSL line I rent from the same ISP) and recipient address OK but when I press the button 'Test email' there is an immediate message from DeltaCopy saying that it cannot access the SMTP server.
I tried other SMTP servers that I can use (I have other ISP's and several accounts).
The weird thing is that Window's network activity monitor shows that at that precise moment NO bytes are sent or received; i.e. the error message of DeltaCopy is wrong; it doesn't even try to connect the SMTP server, because otherwise the counter for sent and received bytes should increase. Also the Wifi connection I use does not show any activity the moment I press 'Test email'.
The error message must be giving the wrong message, but what else could be the problem?
TIA,
Ernst

Try opening a command prompt then typing "telnet smtp.myisp.com 25" (without quotes and replace smtp.myisp.com with the smtp server) and see if you can connect to the smtp server on port 25. If you can't, it's not Deltacopy but your machine.

Works fine; I can telnet in, sent and receive email fine. So everything is working from my PC, it is just the Deltacopy client that can't connect. I also doubt whether it actually tries. The moment I test to send an email the transmit/receive indicator in the systray does not blink at all...
Weird.

Hmm, don't know then. I've never had a problem with deltacopy sending emails, except when i had the wrong information (mistyped email, password, etc). Does anything show in the log? Have you tried the IP address of the smtp server or any servers that require authentication?

Although you didn't directly gave me an answer, your phrase 'Have you tried the IP address of the smtp server...' actually made it work. For some reason smtp.myisp.com doesn't work but specifying the IP address of their smtp server does work!
Wow
Thanks
