Nothing happens when testing the connection after installation...

Hi,

I have installed DeltaCopy Server and Client on a PC running Windows XP, and the idea is to use this to copy files from this remote PC over the Internet to our QNAP NAS which has Rsync. But when hitting the Test Connection button on the PC with DeltaCopy, nothing happens... it seems to hang???

On the NAS side, I have started the service and opened port 873 in the D-Link router on the Internet and forwarded this to the local ip-address for the NAS.

What would be the next step to resolve this?

Regards,

Dag

Just making sure i installed DeltaCopy correctly, cause the profile fails to execute.

Hi all,

1. I am running Windows 7 x64 as the backup server behind a router. The server is using Avast antivirus and the built in Windows 7 firewall.
2. The client computer is running Windows XP Pro behind a router and McAfee antivirus in another town.

The installation when well on both sides...
1. I am assuming that when you install DeltaCopy on the client side, you need to make sure the DeltaCopy server component is not running although i don't know if it matters.

2. On the server installation side, I was not clear on which account to use when installing the service, the local system account or the local user account (my account)? I selected my account.

3. I forwarded ports 873 and 22 on the backup server's router to point to my local workstation on the network "192.168.1.5".

4.
DCServce.exe seems to be running rsync in wrong directory

This is a brand new Windows Server 2008 machine (just provisioned in a new data center). Deltacopy was installed in the C:\program files directory, and this showed up in the Windows Application eventlog:

rsyncd: PID 2028: rsync: unable to open configuration file "deltacd.conf": No such file or directory (2)
rsyncd: PID 2028: rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at /home/lapo/packaging/rsync-3.0.4-1/src/rsync-3.0.4/clientserver.c(1044) [receiver=3.0.4]

Deltacopy was then uninstalled, the service deleted using SC.exe, and then the package was reinstalled into C:\Deltacopy. Exactly the same messages in the eventlog (except for the PID of course). No log file is being written to the filesystem anywhere.

No rsync log file was found anywhere. Observation in task manager showed that DCServce.exe starts fine, runs rsync.exe, and rsync.exe then exits almost immediately. Observation with Process Explorer showed that DCServce.exe starts with a Current Directory of C:\WINDOWS. Process explorer showed that rsync was also being started with a Current Directory of C:\WINDOWS with this commandline:

rsync.exe -v --daemon --config=deltacd.conf --no-detach

The deltacd.conf configuration file is, of course, in C:\Deltacopy, not in C:\WINDOWS. But even when deltacd.conf was copied to C:\WINDOWS the same errors show up in the App eventlog.

The user account being run under is a member of the Administrators group, the Backup Operators group and has been granted the Logon as a Service right. (For policy reasons, we are ***NOT*** going to use the machine's Administrator account. It is foolhardy to recommend that.)

Latest news: If I copy deltacd.conf to C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64, then DCServce.exe will start rsync.exe and rsync runs properly.

The question is, why is DCServc.exe started in the wrong directory? Where can I fix this?

How does DelaCopy facilitate SSH over Port 873 (or does it)

rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5)

I have the DeltaCopy service running on Windows 2008 Server with port 873 open.

From a remote client running Windows 7, I'm attempting to run a back up using the DeltaCopy Client.

On the client, I unzipped the DeltaCopyRaw folder onto the desktop (the download that doesn't include the installer).

From that folder I double clicked on DeltaC.exe, and this brought up the client.

I set up a backup profile that included the ip address of the remote server, and the files I wanted to back up to the virtual folder.

However, when I run the back up, I get the following error:
@ERROR: chdir failed
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at /home/lapo/packaging/rsync-3.0.4-1/src/rsync-3.0.4/main.c(1504) [sender=3.0.4]

Error starting client-server protocol
Profile 'Profile1' executed in 2883 milliseconds. One or more errors were encountered.
Are there any additional ports that need to be open on the remote server, other than 873?

What exactly is going on when the client connects to the server. Doesn't ssh have to come into play. If so, doesn't it run on a different port than 873?

If you'd rather call me, do so (toll free):
http://www.lonniebest.com/Phone/
